Since we started the business over 70 years ago, three generations of P.V. Dobson have served our customers. Family connections are very important to us, so we’re delighted that more generations are eager to follow in the footsteps of our current team.
As it’s Father’s Day on Sunday, we thought we’d introduce you to a couple of father-son pairings who work with us at P.V. Dobson.
Adrian and Dominic White (above)
Adrian is a Valeter and Yardman at our Levens Depot and celebrates 10 years with us in the New Year.
‘P.V. Dobson is a good company. They look after you, and there’s a friendly atmosphere and helpful, supportive team and management, so I had no reservations when Dominic wanted to join.’
Dominic initially came for work experience in 2018 while studying at Myerscough College, even working on his days off and Saturdays! His commitment was rewarded when he was offered an apprenticeship as soon as a position became available.
He started as an agricultural apprentice but changed to construction and is now a PDI Construction Engineer.
‘I’ve just finished my college course and am looking forward to a career in the industry and further opportunities at P.V. Dobson.’
Adrian and Dominic not only work together but also share a workshop where they can pursue their interests in tractors, diggers, and ride-on mowers. They would love to own a vintage tractor that they could work on and take to Vintage and Country Shows - so watch this space!
Bob and Arnold Hodgson
Bob has been with us for over 23 years as an Agricultural Engineer. He enjoys his job and the opportunity to work with farmers and customers, but mostly meeting different people every day and enjoying the craic, something he will miss when he eventually retires.
‘My son has worked with me since he was about 3 or 4 years old. He always took spanners out of my toolbox to make adjustments to his pushbike but made sure he’d put them back in the right place at night time!’
Arnold is only 19, but he’s been with us for three years this month! He’s currently a valeter working in the yard and enjoying improving his skills with ambitions to do an apprenticeship in the workshop and become an agricultural mechanic.
‘I like working on my Uncle’s farm on the tractor, picking up grass and spreading muck! I’m also an active member of Young Farmers. ’
Bob & Arnold enjoy going to Country Shows, especially Westmorland County and other demonstration shows.
Bob recalls, ‘When Arnold was little, he wanted me to take him to the Grassland Show in the bottom of the Country. I said no, we will go to the Stoneleigh a year after. I then saw in the paper that no children were allowed and showed it to him. Arnold read it and said he could go because he was a STUDENT! he was only little!’
You don’t have to have a family member working at P.V. Dobson to join our team! See our current vacancies and apprenticeships on our careers page.
